The French and food…

December 2, 2006

I still don’t understand the subject of food in France.  It is so much more important than in the UK.  Everything is connected some way or another.  So many phrases and idioms are connected to it.  Discussion only takes place around a table.

Some of the food is great.

But some is just normal…but people continue to enthuse about it.  For example, in our baking class on Friday we learnt how to make Cornflake Cakes!!  "Oh how marvelous!"  "Fantastic!"  "The saltyness of the cornflakes and the sweetness of the chocolate…"  You wouldn’t believe the reactions of people.  If I were to tell them we make cornflake cakes with nursery children they would never believe me!!!

On another note:  When I made the cookies with the sunday school class last week I wasn’t sure if Tommy was really enjoying it.  (He’s the one on the photo with his back turned.)  He is a bit older than the other kids and very inteligent.  But I went to his parent’s house on Friday night for tea and he had memorised the recipe and made them again at home!  Really sweet!
