Biennial 2008
I’ve just got back from the ECM biennial in Spain; happy, exhausted, slightly tanned and very pleased to be living on my own!
It was a great time of teaching, seminars, meetings and celebration. I really wanted to make the most of being with people who are in the same situation as me but I think I over did it! 24/7 with people is a bit too much!!
Being the only missionary here in Orleans I often feel quite isolated. It was great to be able to spend time with others and discover that my challenges and difficulties concerning language, culture and planning are not personal to me but common to all new, and some not so new, missionaries.
There is so much to tell, but I will simply share with you some of the ‘Lost in Translation’ situations!
On the overhead: Offer yourself to God in whorship
Conversation: Stacey, "I’m addicted to Harribo."
Lady, without batting an eyelid, "Heroin, really?"
And the lables given to some of the dishes on the buffet:
- Backside of fish
- roll of lamb scum
- Hoar-frost rime to the plate
-
Stoker with colitis of shrimps
Yum yum!
